An Allele That Can Mask Another Allele Is Said to Be __________.

Different versions of a gene are called alleles.  Alleles are described every bit either ascendant or recessive depending on their associated traits.

  • Since man cells carry two copies of each chromosome they accept ii versions of each gene. These different versions of a cistron are called alleles.

  • Recessive alleles only prove their upshot if the individual has two copies of the allele (also known every bit being homozygous). For case, the allele for blue optics is recessive, therefore to have blue eyes you lot need to take 2 copies of the 'blue eye' allele.

What are sex activity-linked genes?

  • Some genes are found on the sex chromosome, X.
  • These genes are inherited with the Ten chromosome (from the mother if it is a boy or from either mother or begetter if it is a girl).
  • Females take two Ten chromosomes (XX), while males accept 1 X chromosome and one Y chromosome (XY).
  • This means females have two alleles for Ten-linked genes while males only have i.
  • Some genetic diseases, are acquired by sex linked genes, for example haemophilia.
  • The allele for haemophilia is recessive so two copies are needed for a female to have the disease
  • However, because males merely accept 1 10 chromosome, they only need 1 copy of the haemophilia allele to have the disease.
  • This means haemophilia is much more common in males than in females.

XHXH = salubrious female

10HXh = carrier female

XhXh = haemophilia female

XHY = healthy male

XhY = haemophilia male
